Preschool Storytime Class

Age Group: 

For children ages 3-1/2 to 6 and their caregivers. Children and caregivers will learn pre-reading skills through stories, songs and rhymes to help prepare them for their Kindergarten Readiness Assessment in Literature Test (KRAL). Kindergarteners will continue to strengthen their skills. Skills include answering questions, repeating sentences, rhyming words and identifying sounds and letters.

Books & Blocks

Saturday, March 16, 2013 - 10:30am to 11:15am

Age Group: 

Children and caregivers join us for stories, building and fun! Each month we’ll read a couple of stories to start, then the building will begin with our LEGO Duplo blocks. We provide books and blocks as inspiration, then your child gets hands-on building time. Please note, children will not be able to keep their creations. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior.

Book Buddies: Little Buddies

Monday, June 10, 2013 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Age Group: 

Students entering grades 1-3 can practice reading with a local teen during this 5-week program. Registrants must commit to at least 3 weeks. (Note weeks you will be unavailable during registration). A variety of reading materials will be supplied. Registration begins June 4 and will be limited by the number of volunteers we recruit.

Youth Chess Club

Thursday, March 7, 2013 - 4:00pm to 4:45pm

Age Group: 

For students in grades 3-6. Checkmate! Chess lovers of all levels are welcome to join our Youth Chess Club. Our local teen experts will moderate, help beginners and suggest strategies to players. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior. (45 min.)

LEGO Lit

Age Group: 

Grades K-4. When books and LEGOs collide, you get Lego Lit! Each month we share a story and build around a theme. The Friends of the UAPL provide the LEGOS, you provide the fun. Registration is required and begins two weeks before each event. (45 min.)

Recording of UAPL's Harlem Shake Video

Have a sense of humor? Be in our Harlem Shake video! Meet just inside the entrance at the Main Library at noon on Sunday, March 10. We’ll escort you to the Youth Department and provide directions. Wear regular clothes and bring your costume, hat or silly prop. All ages are welcome. Those under 18 require a signed parental permission form available either ahead of time at the Youth Desk or on the day of the taping. The video will be uploaded to YouTube and join the MANY other hilarious Harlem Shake videos. Join the fun!

My Little Pony Party

For those of you who couldn’t come last fall; it’s back! Have some fun with your favorite pony pals! We will be partying Pinky Pie style with games, crafts, and snacks. There will be plenty of Ponyville inspired activities to satisfy even Princess Celestia. Come ready to round up some bunnies, make a sonic rainboom, have some of Apple Jacks favorite apple treats, and so much more! Registration is required and begins February 16, 2013.
