Parent-Child Newbery Book Discussion: Call It Courage

Age Group: 

For students in grades 4-6 and a caregiver. Library instructors facilitate a discussion of a selected past Newbery winner or honor title to teach critical thinking and appreciation for literature. This month we will read Call It Courage by Armstrong Sperry. Multiple copies of the book will be available for check-out at each UAPL location; each family is responsible for securing their own copy. (60 min.)

Mock Caldecott Program (L)

Age Group: 

The Caldecott Medal is awarded each year by the American Library Association for the best illustrations in a children’s book by an American illustrator. The official winner will be announced on January 28. Children in grades 2-5 are invited to join us for a “mock election” at the Lane Road Library. We will browse some possible Caldecott contenders, have activities related to the Caldecott award, and vote on our own winner. Enrollment is required and begins December 26.
