Clay Sculpture

Age Group: 

Join the Columbus Art Mobile as we “dig into clay” and make free form sculptures. Each participant will make a sculpture to keep; all supplies are provided. Old clothing is recommended. Registration is required and begins July 13, 2013.

Meet the Bugs!

Age Group: 

Have you ever seen a huge tarantula or enormous scorpion in real life? Have you ever held a Giant African Millipede or Australian Spiny Stick Insect? Come to the Lane Road Library’s “Meet the Bugs” program to see and touch these and many other critters. Megan Meuti, a graduate student from Ohio State University’s Entomology Department, will show off insects and arthropods from around the world and from our own backyard. Children ages 3 and up and their caregivers will have the opportunity to look at, touch, and hold the critters during this informative and interactive presentation.

Reading to Rover

Age Group: 

Kids in grades K-5 are invited to join Marty Marlatt and her trained therapy dogs for a fun way to practice their reading skills. Participants will take turns sharing stories with registered therapy dogs (TDI). We’ll provide the books or you can bring your favorites. No enrollment is required.

Olivia Character Visit

For children ages 2-6 and their families. Join us for this introduction to Ian Falconer’s Olivia books. Come in your favorite snuggly pajamas to hear a bedtime story and meet Olivia. Be sure to bring a camera!

Digging For Magic

For ages 2-7. Get ready for a magical treasure hunt during this fast-paced comedy magic. Using the book Who Stole the Gold by Udo Weigelt for inspiration, Erica and her pirate crew will go on a fun adventure to uncover magical buried treasure! Free tickets are required and can be picked up at the Youth Services Desk beginning June 29.2013.

Cooking Caravan Chef Battle

Age Group: 

Come to the Lane Road Library for the Cooking Caravan’s Chef Battle. Two Cooking Caravan members will square off in an “Iron Chef” style cooking battle that uses audience members as sous chefs. This program is for children ages 5 and up and their adult caregivers. No enrollment is necessary.

Red, White and Bikes!

Reading Rocks

Age Group: 

Every rock has a story to tell. New rocks born of fire, old rocks slowly formed in water– and other rocks shifted by forces below. Students entering grades 3-5 will hear stories of earthquakes, volcanoes and erosion while exploring the wonders of geology.

Drop A Beat, Grab the Mic

Saturday, June 22, 2013 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Age Group: 

Learn to mix, mash and scratch beats at the DJ center, while participants at the MC center are learning to write and perform rhymed couplets on a live microphone. This hands-on program combines music theory and literacy and ends with a wild performance. For Grades 6-12. Registration is required for this program and begins June 8.
