Opera on Film with Christopher Purdy

We welcome Dr. Christopher Purdy as he presents the first installment in our summer Opera on Film Series, Lizzie Borden. An American Lizzie Borden is the best known opera by Jack Beeson. It is based on the real-life case of Lizzie Borden. It was written in 1965 and premiered on March 25, 1965 by the New York City Opera conducted by Anton Coppola.

For children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. Songs, rhymes and stories teach children how sounds and letters relate to reading and will build a foundation for future learning. Interaction with instructors and other children encourages social development and allows caregivers to connect.

Book Buddies: Big Buddies

Help a younger student entering grades 1-3 with their reading during this five-week series! Do reading acivities and coach them as they read to you. We meet each Monday, June 8-July 13 at 2 p.m. Mandatory training on June 8 will last 20 minutes; all other sessions will be 1 hour and 15 minutes. Teens must commit to 3 of the 5 weeks. Applications are available May 1 and are due by May 30.

Book Buddies: Little Buddies

Students entering grades 1-3 can practice reading with a local teen during this five-week program. Registrants must commit to at least 3 weeks. (Note weeks you will be unavailable during registration). A variety of reading materials will be supplied. Registration begins May 26 and will be limited by the number of volunteers we recruit.

For children ages 2-6 and their families. Young children will learn a variety of skills: rhyming, identifying sounds and letters, asking questions and repeating sentences while participating in stories, rhymes, songs and extension activities.
