Babytime Class

For children 0-24 months and their caregivers. Caregivers will learn songs, stories and rhymes to enhance personal reading time. These skills will help children build vocabulary, recognize objects, and build a foundation for reading and learning.

Preschool Storytime Class

Age Group: 

For children ages 3 ½ to 6 and their caregivers. Children and caregivers will learn pre-reading skills through stories, songs and rhymes to help prepare them for their Kindergarten Readiness Assessment in Literature Test (KRAL). Kindergarteners will continue to strengthen their skills. Skills include answering questions, repeating sentences, rhyming words and identifying sounds and letters.

Book Buddies: Big Buddies

Age Group: 

Help a younger student entering grades 1-3 with their reading during this 5-week series! Do reading activities and coach them as they read to you. We meet each Monday, June 10-July 15 from 2-3p.m., with training on the first day. Teens must commit to 3 of the 5 weeks. An application must be given to the Youth Department to register. Registration ends May 30 or after we have 50 teens. (Grades 6-12)

Tales for Twos and Threes Class

Age Group: 

For children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. Songs, rhymes and stories teach children how sounds and letters relate to reading and will build a foundation for future learning. Interaction with instructors and other children encourages social development and allows caregivers to connect.

Feed Down Fines (T)

Got fines? Got food? The UAPL will waive $1.00 of your fines for every nonperishable food item that you donate to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank up to a total of $10. Drop off your nonperishables anytime between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. in meeting room A and receive a coupon to remove your existing fines.

Don’t have any fines but want to donate anyway? Bring your food items to us and we’ll be glad to get them delivered for you.

Lego Lit

Age Group: 

Grades K-4. When books and LEGOs collide, you get Lego Lit! Each month we share a story and build around a theme. The Friends of the UAPL provide the LEGOS, you provide the fun. Registration is required and begins two weeks before each event.

Dinosaurs and Other Fossils

Dr. Dale Gnidovec, Manager and Curator, of the OSU Orton Geological Museum will join us with a fun hands-on, interactive and entertaining presentation about dinosaurs, fossils and prehistoric animals. Registration is required and begins May 30.

Hiking the High Sierras

Age Group: 

Tom Logsdon is a long-distance hiker who has carried a pack over 5,000 miles of back country trails in the last ten years. He has completed the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, and the Long Trail over the Green Mountains from Vermont to Canada. For the last three years he has been section hiking the Pacific Crest Trail for a month each summer. The PCT extends from the Mexican border with California to the Canadian border. In this talk, Tom will discuss his hike through the High Sierra section from Mount Whitney to Yosemite Valley.
