Chris Taylor is the fourth Director at the Upper Arlington Public Library. She began as director on June 1, 2012 after 24 years at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Before that she worked in libraries in and around her hometown of Cleveland including helping out with programs for her mother, a branch manager. Chris is active in both state and national library organizations. She is currently on the board of and holds the office of treasurer for OHIONET (located here in Upper Arlington). She is on the board of the Ohio Library Council and will be board president in 2013. She is a member of the American Library Association Public Awareness Committee and the Public Library Association Public Library Data Service Statistical Report Advisory Committee. Chris has a BA in Mathematics from Kalamazoo College and a Masters of Library Science from Kent State University. Chris looks forward to becoming an integral part of the Upper Arlington community and guiding the library in supporting the lifelong learning needs of the residents of Upper Arlington.
Kate Porter is the Assistant Director and is responsible for the operation of the public services departments. She has been with the library since 1998 and previously held the positions of Circulation Manager and Media Services Manager. Prior to joining Upper Arlington Public Library, Kate was the Public Services Team Leader at the Washington-Centerville Public Library near Dayton. She has been very active in the library’s computer system users’ group and has held several leadership positions in the group over the years. Kate has a BA in History from Wittenberg University, an MA in History from the University of Delaware and a Masters of Library Science from Kent State University. She is an alumna of the Leadership UA class of 2011. Her passion is providing excellent services, programs and materials to the residents of our community.
Kate Hemleben was named Fiscal Officer for the Upper Arlington Public Library in February 2009. She has over 20 years of accounting experience from her work at the OSU Alumni Association, The Ohio State University and MAXIMUS, a publicly traded company specializing in governmental services. Kate is responsible for financial reporting and oversight for the library as well as ensuring the library’s compliance with the Ohio Revised Code (ORC). Kate also oversees payroll, procurement and the financial management information system of the library. Other responsibilities of note are managing the library’s property, casualty and general liability insurance program, the bi-annual audit and the library’s investment program.
Kate earned a BSBA degree in accounting from The Ohio State University, College of Business and is a certified public accountant. She is a member of Tri Village Rotary Club, Association of Government Accountants (AGA) and Ohio Government Finance Officers Association (OH GFOA). She is also an alumna of the Leadership Upper Arlington (LUA) class of 2010.
Deputy Fiscal Officer
Sarah is a Hilliard native and has lived in Columbus her whole life. The Upper Arlington Public Library was an important place to her throughout her childhood and is one of the reasons why reading is one of her many passions. Sarah started working for the Upper Arlington Public Library in 2007 as a Library Aide in the Reference Department working with periodicals and the UA Archives. Sarah is a graduate of The Ohio State University – Max M. Fisher College of Business. While completing her BSBA in Accounting she moved to the Administration Department as Deputy Fiscal Officer in 2011. She appreciates the value that her work provides for staff and patrons by managing payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable. Sarah is currently working towards her CPA certification.
Human Resources Manager
Julie Whitt is the Human Resources Manager at the Upper Arlington Public Library. She has been with the library since 2001. Julie has over 15 years of experience in the field of human resources including work at St. Vincent Family Centers and Mount Carmel Health Systems. Julie has been active in the Ohio Library Council’s Human Resources and Trainer Division and will be serving as coordinator in 2014. Julie holds a BA in Human Resources Management and Business Management from Franklin University. Julie was excited to mesh her professional experience with library patron service by presenting an interviewing skills workshop to library patrons. She also participated in a panel discussion at the library’s Job Help Day which was a collaborative effort with other Central Ohio libraries to help individuals prepare for their job search. Julie’s goal in her position is to help build and support a strong library team to provide excellent services to the UA community.
Nancy Roth is the Administrative Secretary at the Upper Arlington Public Library. Nancy joined the library in 2005 after relocating from Erie, PA. Nancy’s first career was as a counsellor with the Franklin County Juvenile Court in Columbus. She holds a BA degree in Sociology from Kent State University. After moving to Erie, PA, Nancy volunteered in the local Habitat for Humanity Office and subsequently took a paid position there as Office Manager. Nancy is responsible for coordinating the Friends of the Upper Arlington Public Library funding requests, ordering and maintaining general supplies for the library and maintaining the Board Minutes. She serves as the E-Rate Coordinator for the library and the Public Records Coordinator. Nancy’s goal is to enable library staff to perform their specialized duties without “sweating the small stuff.”
