Northstar was developed in response to the needs of job seekers who may lack the digital literacy skills needed to seek, obtain, and retain employment, as well as to perform other tasks in daily life. Northstar Digital Literacy defines basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online. Online, self-guided modules assess the ability of individuals to perform tasks based on these skills. Included are basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in three main areas:
Recommends fiction and nonfiction books to young readers based on books they’ve liked in the past, their interests, and their reading levels. Includes guides and recommendations based on Common Core.
Recommends fiction and nonfiction books to teens and adults based on books they’ve liked in the past, favorite authors, and genres.
Contains legal forms and a tool to help fill them out, including forms for estate planning, real estate, business, and more.
Contains records of library holdings worldwide.
Discusses key points and controversies in the history of worker’s rights and wages in the United States. Includes timeline of significant events and primary source documents.
Provides a guide to the meaning and history of words from across the English speaking world, including quotations tracing changes in meaning over time.
Contains in-depth, peer-reviewed summaries of a variety of topics, including history, psychology, economics, physics, and more.
Offers concise introductions to a diverse range of subject areas, including climate, algebra, economics, literary theory, and more.
